Female Hyperhidrosis

Hyperhidrosis affects between 1.5% and 2% of the population. There is a significant number of cases in women since about 50% of the world’s population is female. Hyperhidrosis has many social and functional implications that can affect women. This can be especially difficult for women in situations such as intimacy, wearing certain types of shoes or clothing, social settings, workplace settings, dating, etc. Functional impairments can happen on job sites, computer work, drawing and architectural work, etc. Self-esteem can be also be affected. Many patients describe years of social inhibition and frustration. The surgical solution should be considered after attempts were made with conservative/alternative methods.

Female Foot Sweating
Severe foot sweating (plantar hyperhidrosis) affects women more than men purely because women’s footwear and fashion is very important in today’s environment. Those who suffer from severe sweating, literally sliding in their high heels, cannot even wear flat footwear, such as sandals, without sliding. Accidents do happen and ankle fractures have been reported as well. For women not having freedom to choose their preferred footwear can be a frustrating experience. Many of Dr. Reisfeld's previous patients speak of the liberating experience of wearing shoes again without the fear of embarrassment.

Patients for whom excessive foot sweating was not helped by the ETS procedure should consider the ELS procedure as a possible solution. Learn more about foot sweating.

Female Hand Sweating
For women their hands like their feet represents a very feminine characteristic. This is especially true when it comes to relationships and intimacy. Also daily routine activity such as computer use, smart phone use, makeup, manicures, driving etc. are all activities that pose a certain challenge to those affected with palmar hyperhidrosis. If conservative measures that are recommended for every patient are not successful then consideration should be given to the surgical approach.
