L Level

The L level simply describes the anatomical location where a lumbar sympathectomy procedure is done. For example, if the titanium clips are applied at the L3 level it means that the clips were applied at the level of the third lumbar vertebra.

We human beings have 5 lumbar vertebrae. In the thoracic region (for hand sweating), we have 12 vertebrae. Those levels are used in order to establish a unified approach as to the best level for the sympathectomy.

I have had the ETS surgery and never had sweaty feet. After the surgery my feet now sweat profusely. I am interested in setting up a consultation for the ELS surgery and would like to hear more about the possibility of the sweat moving to another area of my body (waist or face/head) after the ELS.

The fact that you have excessive feet sweating(plantar hyperhidrosis) after your ETS is the normal course for patients who suffer from Hyperhidrosis. For most patients with palmar and plantar hyperhidrosis the hands are showing their intensity before the feet. The maturation of the sweat glands in the feet appear later than those on the hands. The ELS is very effective to treat plantar sweating. It will be much more effective if you can call the office at 310 557 3037 so I can discuss with you this issue. Thanks.
