Fear of sweating gone after surgery

Dear Dr. Reisfeld & Staff,

Thank you so much for all you’ve done for me throughout the past few months! Your help and support with my insurance and pricing battles on top of the phenomenal results I have from my redo ETS surgery have truly been a blessing! To think I waited so long before looking into my options and your center absolutely baffles me! For the first time in my life, I can finally go about my day-to-day life without worrying about shaking hands, slipping in my shoes, and my worrying worsening my sweating! I even had a foot massage last month for the first time because I no longer feared another person awkwardly noticing my sweating. I look forward to keeping in touch. Please let me know if there’s ever anything I can do for you; it’s the least I can do. A thousand thank yous once again.

I had ETS surgery in 2006 to treat excessive sweating in my underarms and hands. After reading your surgery details, it mentions there’s a surgical option for foot sweating.

Although my ETS surgery treated my hand sweating 100%, I am still experiencing mild underarm sweating and extreme secondary hyperhidrosis. In addition to my feet, I sweat profusely on my back and abdomen. I also experience lower body sweating including my butt and groin area.

Do you have any recommendations on what I can do to treat the secondary sweating? I’d like to consider the lumbar sympathectomy, but I fear that I’d be sweating constantly considering my results from ETS. Any guidance is appreciated.

The Lumbar Sympathectomy will help you with the feet(Plantar) hyperhidrosis. With regard to the sweating in the butt area and the groin you might get some help as well. The level of the compensatory sweating on your back and your abdomen will stay the same. The ETS is the main factor as to the level of compensatory sweating.
